Bamboo Clothing kindly sent us a long sleeved BAM Active Wear top which retails for £35.00.
BAM clothing was started in 2006 by former international pole vaulter David Gordon. Made from Bamboo, BAM clothing is organic and environmentally friendly.
Before I start, from my experience I have several issues with long sleeve “active wear” tops; they become smelly after continued use (no matter how many times you wash them – please agree!!) and unless worn-in they are itchy and restrictive.
To be honest with you I thought that I had drawn the short straw with this product test. I had imagined Bamboo Clothing to be all of the above. However when the top arrived, to my surprise it was very comfortable and stylish. Over the next month I wore the top at least twice a week, either out running or riding.
Firstly I noticed that the top was brilliant at sweat absorption. Like most blokes I’m pretty sweaty and the top proved ideal for shorter runs (under 1hr) or at the gym. However, after an hour the absorption rate did seem to decrease. Although I was a lot dryer than using my alternative cotton top. Secondly, I found that it was breathable and as a result kept me cool in the warmth of the gym and warm when outside.
As for becoming smelly & restrictive; I did not notice a change in smell (however you may need to ask the others at Ransacker!) and it was very comfortable almost unnoticeable, which made it a perfect base layer.
The top is slightly expensive at £35.00 however I would not let this put you off since;
- It will last for years,
- You can return it for free if you don’t like it - see BAM’s T&C’s.
- For every top purchased Bamboo Clothing plant another tree,
- By entering ransacker during the order process you get another 10% off!
Verdict: I would give the BAM Active Wear Top 9/10. First and
foremost it feels and performs great and secondly it’s good to see a clothing company with ethics! The only reason I would not give it 10 is that it does become slightly sweaty during prolonged exercise.
