After the positive impression the adidas Kanadia TR left on us during the dry Summer months we thought Carol should put them through their paces during one of the wettest November months on record. As it turned out it wasn’t the weather that dampened Carol’s spirits but the shoes!
This review has been a long time in coming and no, not because I am going to tell you anything exciting, innovative and revolutionary. On the contrary I just don’t feel inspired to write anything at all and I think that in itself sums up my review of one of Adidas’s dullest of trail shoes; the adidas Kanadia TR.
When Ransacker asked me to trial an Adidas trail shoe I was hoping that it would be the adizero XT as I am a huge fan of adidas adizero Pro and Mana road shoes – alas the adidas Kanadia TR didn’t push any of my buttons. Style wise the female shoe is grey and pink and nothing to be excited or offended about.
Fit and comfort - I trialled a size six (in normal shoes I am a five and I usually buy trainers in a six) but this was slightly small fitting length wise. However, I think the adidas Kanadia TR was a little too wide fitting for my narrow foot because on a very steep ascent I really hurt the ball of my foot trying to grip in them even though they are supposed to have a non slip lining. Compared to the lightweight Inov-8’s I have run in I found the shoe felt heavy and cumbersome and the high rise made me feel that my feet were being straight jacketeted.
Durability – I found that the tread was not grippy and I didn’t feel I could trust the adidas Kanadia TR’s. I slipped at home on a tiled surface and so one of my running buddies recommended I rough them up. I didn’t do this, but I did trial them over three different trail/fell runs over mixed terrain and they have naturally worn, but still don’t grip! I have not put these through the washing machine yet, but I have scrubbed them and they are very easy to clean underneath.
Would I buy the adidas Kanadia TR? – I didn’t buy them in the first place! – thanks Ransacker for letting me trial them. They are relatively cheap at under £50 compared to other trail shoes, but I would rather pay a bit extra to get a pair of Inov-8 trail shoes. You have been warned!
I’d really like to hear from anyone else who has worn the Kanadia’s. Prior to wearing them I’d heard positive things from Ransacker and other runners so I was really disappointed to find that they couldn’t cope in the wet. If you have any questions please leave a comment below.
Ransacker Rated – adidas Kanadia TR
P.S For those that are concerned, I didn’t actually burn the shoes! I’m sure I can find them another loving home.
