A treat for the feet! The Nike Zoom Vomero has been one of Nike’s most successful running shoes in recent years. The key to it success has been minor but significant improvements, year on year. And that’s exactly what the Nike Zoom Vomero+ 4 delivers; a whole lot of the Nike Zoom Vomero+ 3 and a little bit more.
You may think Nike have taken the lazy approach but if there is one thing we like in a running shoe, its consistency. The last thing that you want is a newer model to differ drastically from its predecessor.
The Technical Stuff
In the Nike Zoom Vomero+ 4, Nike has maintained the mid-sole and the outsole construction from the Nike Zoom Vomero+ 3, while making structural improvements to the upper.
The Nike Zoom Vomero+ 4 is built from the ground up. The outsole features abrasion-resistant, BRS 1000 carbon rubber under the crash pad to enhance the durability in this high-wear area while also providing greater comfort with every foot strike. The women’s Vomero+ 4 has a crash pad that is slightly more rounded radius for a softer landing upon impact.
The outsole is aggressively articulated to promote the natural motion of the foot from impact through toe-off. The articulated segments of Duralon across the forefoot and along the lateral forefoot and midfoot provide cushioning and durability while also encouraging a more neutral, efficient toe-off.
The mid-sole of the Nike Zoom Vomero+ 4 features a combination of Cushlon and Nike Zoom units for a great blend of responsive cushioning and durability. Heel and forefoot Nike Zoom units provide lightweight, responsive cushioning at heel strike and toe-off. An asymmetrical arch bridge mid-foot shank enhances support under the mid-foot while still allowing for a degree of torsional rotation to unlock the foot’s natural stabilizing mechanisms.
The heel cup is gender-specific and rounded to mimic the shape of the human calcaneus or “heel” bone. The de-coupled and articulated crash pad absorbs shock at impact to provide a smooth transition through mid-stance. The women’s heel cup, specifically, is designed to address the variance in women’s heel sizes and shapes.
The new upper of the Nike Zoom Vomero features a CPU mid-foot saddle that has been expanded to allow even more of the upper to stretch and flex dynamically through all phases of foot strike. Also, the engineering of the mid-sole has been slightly modified to deliver more consistent cushioning along the full length and width of the mid-sole component.
Inside the shoe, the Fitsole sockliner molds to the shape of your foot for a custom fit with great support; a soft, pliable arch accommodates a wide range of foot types. A partial, bootie construction provides a plush, comfortable fit and feel inside the shoe.
The Nike Zoom Vomero+ 4 is, of course, Plus-enabled allowing for it to support the Nike+ chip in the shoe which talks to the Nike+ receiver in the Apple iPod Nano and Apple iTouch.
