With the release of the Asics Gel Kayano 16 imminent we thought we’d find out what you think of its predecessors and what you want from the new Asics Gel Kayano 16.

For 16 years, Asics have been refining their Kayano running shoe technology to be the epitome of all that is needed for distance runners. Most running aficionados will recommend the Asics Kayano above all others, as they have gained the trust of the running community like no other shoe. Suited to the neutral runner or mild overpronator, the Kayano has taken Asics ahead of all other running brands as the ultimate in running shoe.

16 years of the Asics Kayano

However in recent times the quality of the model and the need for two releases a year has been questioned. A change in geometry for the Asics Kayano 15 resulted in some critisismamongst its loyal following who have preferred to stick with the Asics Kayano 14.

So what model from the previous 15 incarnations did you prefer and what do you want from the Asics Gel Kayano 16? Let us know and the best answer (As voted by us – winner notified 01/11/09) will receive a free pair of Asics Gel Kayano 16 to review.

Personally, it has to be the Asics Kayano 11′s. They were my first ‘real’ pair of running shoes. Perhaps it was my age and boundless amounts of energy but I truly felt invincible in the Kayano 11′s. Secondly I was really impressed with the Asics Kayano 14′s, they really pushed the boundaries once more. From the Asics Gel Kayano 16 I’d like to see a reduction in weight and slightly more guidance without intrusive support, and finally a decent colorway.

I must have worn all but two of the above kayano’s. Think I deserve a discount with Asics. The thing I love about the Kayano’s is the consistency. They just tweak the shoe to make it better every year, well apart from the 15′s. I just found them too hard and really suffered with my shins.

So my personal favorite: Asics Kayano 10′s. Managed a sub 3hr FLM in them!
What I’d like from the Asics Kayano 16′s: A discount! To get rid of the asymetrical lacing, add some more cushioning and lower the heel.

Kayano – an ode to common sense…

Kayano 13 – my running life was a dream,
stable in the heel and a wonderful transition feel

Kayano 14 – not all that they seemed,
decked out in blue, for me a bit too loose a shoe

Brooks Adrenaline – a departure from the faith in my hand,
big mistake – a strained illiotibial band

Kayano 15 my running life back on track,
wallet slightly depleted, but pbs by the stack

Lunarglide Plus – a quick trip to the moon,
but back down to Earth with a strained calf all too soon

Which leads nicely to the Kayano 16,
less weight, adaptive ride – have these things been seen.

To end the soft mesh on the upper front must go,
so after 200 miles you can’t all see my big toe!

LOL – that poem has just cheered me up. Tweaked my back this morning so I’m feeling sorry for myself. Just out of interest how did you manage to get hold of a pair of 16′s? Would love to hear your thoughts.

I’ve been wearing the Kayano’s since I discovered the 7s. I was completely astonished of the difference in comfort and support from my old running shoes. One year, I needed to save money and bought a less expensive pair of shoes. It was brutal. I went back to the Kayanos and never looked back. I didn’t have the 15s but the 16s are on the standard of excellence that make me love my Asics.
