Marathon running, Kenya and adidas has two new stars!!

What do we know? We predicted that the dominant Nike athletes; Kebede and Shobukhova would cruise to victory at the Virgin London Marathon! Although we can’t fault the effort put in by both athletes (Shobukhova run a PB by 10 secs) they were outclassed by two adidas athletes; Emmanuel Mutai and Mary Keitany.

Mary Keitany

Mary Keitany became the second fastest woman to win the London Marathon after Paula Radcliffe in 2003, and in a time that is sure to have piqued the British world-record holder’s interest. The Kenyan, who was running in only her second marathon, won in 2hr 19min and 19sec, making her the joint-fourth fastest woman of all time over the 26.2 mile distance.

Keitany was wearing the sames shoes as Haile Gebreselassie when he ran a World Record 2:03:58, the adidas adiZERO adios. Widely regarded as the best racing shoe available the ultra-light and flexible adios offer superior cushioning and step-in comfort, plus an environmentally sound synthetic upper. Maintaining ultimate lightweight, the Adios features everything that is essential, nothing that is not.

Emmanuel Mutai

Emmanuel Mutai produced a stunning performance to win the men’s race in a London Marathon course-record time of 2hr 4min and 38sec. Supporting his blitzing pace were a pair of custom designed adidas adiZERO running shoes. The reason for the delay in this post was actually because we couldn’t figure out what shoes Mutai was wearing and neither could adidas! We hope to get some further information on the striking black and yellow cleats soon.

Emmanuel Mutai has now set his sights on winning the world championship title in Daegu South Korea. Mutai said it will be an honour to represent the country if given the chance y Athletics Kenya. “It will be good to represent Kenya but that decision is out of my hands and I will wait to see what happens in the coming weeks,”

Make it three stars!

Meanwhile across the pond at the Boston marathon, Mutai’s namesake: Geoffrey Mutai ran himself, Kenya and adidas into the record books with an amazing run of 2hr 3min and 1sec!

What a week for Kenya, adidas and marathon running!!
