It seems that all the hype this weekend is over the new Puma PowerCat boot, with a range of Premier League stars tipped to be slotting on the new cleat.
Less certain of whether he’ll slot on the PowerCat or stick with the Puma V-Konstrukt III boot that has served him so well this season is Arsenal’s Bacary Sagna. The Gunners man has been a defensive warhorse as Arsene Wenger’s side have flirted with a serious title challenge, and in the V-Konstrukt he has a boot that prides itself on one of the snuggest fits in the market. Super soft leather shapes and moulds itself around the foot while positional padding in the vamp area offers all the protection that a defensive playmaker needs.
With off-centre lacing to enhance pressure distribution and reduce ball impact it’s every bit the boot you would expect of the London club’s precise and exact passing style.
In contrast to that, Ashley Cole’s Nike CTR360 boot is much more in the mould of a hard and fast tackler, utilising the strength to bomb up and down the wing. Contoured support, grips, density of soul and sharp, strong heel studs mean that unlike the Konstrukt, you’ll grow into this boot over a period of time, and given Cole’s recent displays of late he has certainly done his growing.
Will Sagna go for the Konstrukt over the new PowerCat, will Ransacker be the only site on the whole internet talking about Cole and not another well-known English central defender?
And will this match have a defining influence on the destination of the Premier League title? The answer to all of those is ‘maybe’, but what is certain is that Sunday’s capital clash, is that it promises to be a belter.
Ransacker Prediction: Difficult to judge this one given that we scarcely know what football boots Sagna will be wearing, but whether the unpredictable and unseen Puma PowerCats or the V-Konstrukt, the Nike CTR360 has been well received this season and for a touchline-lover such as Cole it’s the perfect forward foil and the Arsenal man should have the advantage.
