Boot Review with Grimsby Town’s Danny Boshell

October 22nd, 2009 by James Evans | Comment

Danny BoshellDanny Boshell came through the ranks at Oldham Athletic and made almost 100 appearances for the Latics before moving on to local rivals Stockport County in 2005, via a short loan spell with Bury.

He spent just one season at Edgeley Park before moving on to Grimsby Town. He has made over 100 appearances for the Mariners and helped keep the club in the Football League last season. He also helped Town get to the final of the Football League Trophy 2008, beating the likes of Rotherham United and Doncaster Rovers on the way to the Wembley final, where they were defeated 2-0 by MK Dons.

The tough-tackling midfielder spoke to Ransacker’s Chris Galea about his boots and why he reckons they are the cream of the crop.

Q. What boots do you wear?
A. I wear the old-school Adidas Copa Mundial football boots.

adidas Copa Mundial Firm Ground Football Boots - Black/WhiteQ. Have you always worn the Adidas Copa Mundial football boots.?
A. Pretty much. I used to wear Nike boots when I first started out, but I found the Adidas Copa Mundial football boots suited me better in terms of comfort and performances, so swapped to them and I’ve been with them ever since.

Q. How many boots do you tend to go through during a season?
A. I get through a couple of pairs per season in terms of match boots because I like to look after them. In terms of training boots then you are looking at two or three pairs because you wear them more.

Q. Who at the club has the naffest pair of boots?
A. There is no-one that really stands out at the moment, but Danny North wore some nasty orange ones in the past. He probably wore them to match his hair!

Q. Is there anyone at the club which has really smelly feet?
A.I don’t really tend to go near enough to smell them to be honest, but I’d probably say Barry Conlon.

RANSACKER RATED

Here’s how Danny rates his Adidas Copa Mundial football boots:

Style: 10/10 - You can’t beat the old boot. They are definitely better than all these flash new brands.
Comfort: 10/10 – As far as I am concerned they’re the best on the market
Speed: 7/10 - They are a bit heavier than the new boots, so they aren’t the quickest.
Power: 8/10– You feel as if you are really striking the ball well in the Copa Mundials.
Protection: 9/10 - The old style leather boots give you far better protection than the modern plastic ones.
Grip: 8/10 – I rarely have any complaints even in the cold Winter months
Durability: 8/10 - They are quite flexible despite the protection that they offer.
Price: 9/10 - They are a good price; a bit cheaper than the flashier versions.
Prestige: 10/10 – For me they’re the best traditional boots on the market
Touch: 8/10 – The traditional leather really helps with touch and control.
