Some interesting games today, with only five goals to talk about, and a bit of an upset in the form of Italy v Paraguay, topped off by a ridiculous own goal that had the culprit smiling about the incident – and a pair of NEW BOOTS to add to the boot-league-table!
First we started the day with Holland v Denmark, a game which was sure to bring goals! Holland, a team full of stars and big names, and ended up seeing two Liverpool players on the score-sheet!
Sad
ly both goals were very sloppy and Denmark will be kicking themselves tonight after going in at half-time 0-0 and probably pretty happy. This was before the teams walked out after the break, and Denmark’s Simon Poulsen forget the teams had changed ends and aimed a clearance at his own goal, which got a deflection off of Daniel Agger’s back before beating the keeper, in a comical moment!
Poulsen, wearing a pair of adidas Predator X football boots, and Agger, in a pair of Adidas F50 Adizero football boots, didn’t know what hit them, but sadly for Agger, he got marked down as the goalscorer, and that’s another goal in the Adidas F50 Adizero football boots!
Holland doubled the advantage when Eljero Elia’s shot hit the post, and despite two defenders being closer to the ball, Dirk Kuyt raced forward to tap in the rebound and secure the win for Holland in a sleek pair of Adidas Predator X football boots!

The second game of the day saw Japan secure their first victory in an opening World Cup game, thanks to the work of Keisuke Honda who tapped home after some sloppy Cameroon marking, and scored the only goal of the game for Japan in a pair of Mizuno Wave Ignitus football boots, just before half-time! This marks the first goal in a pair of non-Nike or adidas football boots, and is a new contender in the competition (although I can’t see many wearing the leopard boots).
Both sides hit the woodwork in the latter stages of the game, but either team failed to execute before the full-time whistle!
The last game in tonight’s round-up features defending World Champions Italy, take on a Paraguay team, that not many people favoured.
And suprisingly it was Paraguay who got the first goal with a great header from Antolin Alcaraz and today’s Ransacker WC Review, goal-of-the-day, leaping in a pair of adidas adiPure III football boots! A splendid header from the Wigan Athletic defender beat the strong and experienced Italian markers and goalkeeper and put Paraguay 1-0 up at half-time.
But the Italians kept on fighting, and fought their way back with a gaping opportunity as the Paraguay keeper missed the ball from a corner, to fall to Daniel De Rossi, who instantly found the back of the net in his Adidas Predator X football boots!
The game finished level with a massive point for Paraguay, and a disappointing result for Italy. A big day of World Cup football ahead of us tomorrow as Portugal and Brazil both fight off the GROUP OF DEATH!
RANSACKER AWARDS OF THE DAY
Boot of the Day: Mizuno Wave Ignitus football boots – The Adidas Predator X football boots did make it as top scorer of the day, and is keeping the Adizero’s on it’s toes, but the boot of the day, thanks to a neat finish by Honda for Japan, has to be the funky, leopard spot Mizuno Wave Ignitus football boots.
Player of the Day: Dirk Kuyt– Kuyt stood out for me today in Holland’s victory over Denmark, and with some great performances at this competition, and a number of Liverpool players leaving the club, maybe this could be his calling card?
Team of the Day – Paraguay - Although Japan had a great victory over Cameroon, the African side aren’t as hard to defeat as reigning World Champions Italy, so today’s team of the day goes to a Paraguay team who tested Italy and held on to the early goal to take a point!
Goal of the Day: Antolin Alcaraz v Italy– Another header makes it as goal of the day, but this was a class header from the lad to down Italy before half-time. Wasn’t the best goal we’ve seen so far, but surely best of the day!
Villain of the Day: Simon Poulsen – Despite the own goal being marked down in Agger’s name, it was Poulsen’s fault, and the idiot had a great big grin on his face right after doing it! Maybe he’s a Dutch spy?
