Sam Vokes has gone from struggling at the foot of League One with Bournemouth to the verge of the Premier League at Wolves, along the way making his international debut for Wales, and notching his first goal for his country. All that in the last nine months.
He made his name for the South Coast strugglers as he notched 12 goals during Bournemouth’s relegation-ending campaign last season. Wolves quickly snapped up the youngster and he has gone on to earn six caps for Wales, with his first goal coming in the 1-0 win over Azerbaijan in September. The Welsh hitman spoke to Ransacker’s Chris Galea about why coloured boots aren’t for him.
Q. What boots do you wear?
A. I wear the AdiPures by Adidas.
Q. Have you always worn them?
A. I used to wear the Copa Mundials and changed to the AdiPures this season really.
Q. Why did you change?
A. Just because they are tight fitting really and I liked them.
Q. Is there really a lot of difference between boots?
A. I think so. I like wearing the boots that I feel most comfortable in really, so it is all about each player’s individual needs.
Q. What’s your view on coloured boots?
A. They’re not really for me. I prefer the traditional black boots, so the Adidas cleats are perfect in that sense. I’ll leave the coloured boots to others.
Q. So you’ve never worn pink boots?
A. No chance. I’d never wear pink boots. Black boots or no boots!
Q. How many pairs do you usually get through in a season?
A. I’m not really sure. It depends on the surface condition really, but probably about three or four during the course of the season. Not too much, but it all depends how much they stretch really because that is when I get a new pair.
