The adidas adiPURE series has always oozed class and the latest incarnation isn’t any different. Created with the footballing purist in mind the adidas adiPURE III has been designed to embrace the feet of Kaka, Xabi Alonso, Frank Lampard, Van Persie et al. However, historically the adiPURE range has been hugely popular with players who aren’t contracted to a sportswear manufacturer so they are likely to feature heavily at the World Cup in South Africa.
Not known for its revolutionary developments, I wasn’t expecting any radical colorways, shooting pods or fins but on face value the boot hardly seems to have changed! It is only when you look at the subtle modifications that you realise the beauty is in the detail.
The Profile
On the face of it the adidas adiPURE III don’t look overly different from the adiPURE II (see right III’s top, II’s bottom)but adidas have assured potential buyers that there was more then enough to warrant a new release of the popular boot.
There are a few esthetical changes, such as the Three Stripes being added to the instep, a white heel collar, uniform stitching and a gold adidas logo on the tongue. Thankfully the adidas adiPURE III still retain the classic look and are true to size.
The Upper
You’ll be glad to know that unlike the Predator X the adidas adiPURE III has kept its K-leather upper for a perfect fit and excellent ball control. The wrap-around tongue that featured on the adiPURE II has been removed and replaced with a mono-construction ‘traditional’ tongue.
The now industry standard Asymmetrical lacing system remains. Some extra comfort has been added to the collar and a pre-molded sockliner with adiPrenefoam inserts in the heel. Whilst protection and stability has been increased due to an extended external heel stabiliser.
Overall the robust construction has been enhanced without adding weight with the vamp stitched and tailored to player movement and ball strike.
The Sole
Inside adidas have made slight improvements and the adidas adiPURE III now has a removable contoured sockliner with AdiPRENE to reduce stud pressure and provide extra comfort. There is also an anti-slip lining for a better fit.
The outsole: as has come to be expected, provides a secure and safe platform. However, the traditional six-stud set-up is now exchangeable and provides maximum ground penetration but with increased forefoot flexibility. Good, when there is crazy unpredictable weather like this and you don’t know whether a pitch will be soft or hard until you get there.
My overall thoughts: Personally, I prefer the look of the adiPURE II but the adidas adiPURE III wasn’t designed to grab your attention, yet to seduce you with its performance and you can’t question the ability of adidas to do so. I look forward to playing some competitive matches with the adidas adiPURE III in Jan.

how’s the fit? i heard adipure 3 is regular fit than adipure 2 which is small fit. Thanks in advance
That’s correct. They come up with a regular fit when compared to the II’s which were a little tight. Our full review should be on the site next week.
How about the weight difference? There is alot focus on the comfort area in the adiPURE III – has it gotten heavier?
Hi Heri – Good question, we really shouldnt have overlooked that! The adipure III are actually heavier! They weigh 10.6 oz and the adipure II weigh 10.2 oz.
I prefer the small fit. What small fit boot would you recommend now since adidas has changed to a regular fit?
