England are knocking on the door of the South Africa 2010 World Cup Finals after their comprehensive victory over hapless Andorra at Wembley last night.
The 6-0 victory puts the Three Lions on the first step of the plane to the Southern Hemisphere, but more important than even that was the conclusion of this season’s Boot Wars, with Matthew Upson and Oscar Sonejee doing battle for our clash of the cleats.
And you didn’t have to be Paul McKenna to be able to predict that Upson confidently strode towards victory in his Adidas Copa Mundial boots.
For Sonejee, it was a Boot Wars debut as far as the Asics Lethal boot goes, but never was a more wrongful word said in jest as the ‘Lethal’ proved to be anything but in a spikeless midfield that presented England with no sign of trouble in the same way as it prevented keeper Robert Green with little sign of even the ball.
We’ll be summing up this year’s Boot Wars challenge in full next week, but in the meantime here are the latest standings:
Joint 3rd – Joma Imperial (won 1, lost 0)
Joint 3rd - Nike Mercurial Talaria IV (won 1, lost 0)
15th – Nike Total 90 Laser II (won 1, lost 3)
